The challenge this week is #49 Layering Stencils with Texture Paste. If you don't have a copy of Compendium of Curiosities 3, you can order a copy here. I didn't actually have any texture paste and realized this too late to order any, so I got onto Pinterest and made my own!!
I actually had to make three batches. The first one, with flour and baby oil, was a DISASTER! The second one, with flour, paint and Mod Podge, never ever got blended and smooth. It stayed clumpy and I'll have to make a post with a photo of how it turned out 'cause it wasn't good. My third try was a keeper!! Baking soda, paint and Mod Podge. Awesomeness. The only issue I had with it was that it didn't really resist ink at all. So with that in mind, I altered the original plan for the my project and created this. I didn't wanna risk tearing my ink blending tool on the texture paste so I used Distress Stains instead and I think it was a great idea.
Now if you're wondering where the texture paste is, I'm going to show you!
See the stars in the background? I left the middle section intentionally white to create a red, white and blue background. Then I stamped overtop the entire tag with Archival Ink.
In this photo you can really see the stars in the red section. They stay a bit lighter than the background but still take color.
