This first week of Project Runway: Teams there were two challenges, technically. One to design an outfit inspired by New York City from Afar. The other was to design something inspired by New York City, View from The Top. They stressed for the designers to show them who they were. In a sense, I saw both concepts in the same way, but I did what I could. There are a few companion pieces yet to come that I'll hopefully show you next week.
New York City From Afar
Since on PR, they always want the designers to tell them about their look, I'll tell you about this card. Lena is a fairy, and she used to be a human who lived in NYC. She misses her city and has landed on the water to listen to the sounds of a life she used to live and longs to live again. I used the lyrics to "Mad World" because music is, of course, who I am, and that song is very relevant to me.
NYC From Afar, #2
This is Sofia. Sofia is from Long Island and she's headed home after a loooooong day of shopping in the city. She's lonely though, because even though she can--and does--buy the world, she doesn't have anyone to share with it. There are amazing 80s lyrics on this card, "Glamorous Life" by Sheila E.
NYC View from The Top
These women are fashionistas who only pretend to be businesswomen to furnish their shoe shopping. I used the same Sheila E lyrics for this card. I feel as though they're on top of a building at lunch, chatting and watching the city around them.
So that's week one. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I've got album pages to finish distressing. Laters!
